This morning, officials in Altéa gave a warm welcome to Xsampan and Vermese representatives as both of their respective nations would be new members of the Altéa Accords. The move, while surprising to some, was expected in some inner circles within Altéa. The Lion-Yak Pact between Xsampa and Egelion has served as the basis for Dovani-Keris relations for decades now. Entry into the Altéa Accords would more formalize this agreement - not just for Keris, but for Seleya as well. As Royal Councilor Mondragon made clear, entrance into the Altéa Accords is not "exclusive to Egelion simply because of the name of the agreement. All nations within the treaty are now on a positive standing with all members of the accord.

Royal Councilor Mondragon made it clear that joining the Altéa Accords does not create a sense of "special alignment towards Egelion". While the Altéa does guarantee more-than-cordial relations with Egelion, a sense of dependency and "lordship" will not be created. "The goal of the Accords is not attachment to Egelion or any nation within the accords. Cooperation and communication is our purpose. Collective defensive agreements such as those abroad are not our focus." The statement from Mondragon comes after the movement from Dovani rejected Pan-Dovani Nationalism - a known detriment to foreign relations based on Xsampan foreign policy. 

While the IDE concluded that the move may signal alignment to Egelion, the IDE stated that while nations are part of the accords, it does not restrict them from continental organizations such as the DSO. The Altéa Accords is not simply an agreement, but it represents a movement towards mutual, cooperation based international order - contrary to the interventionist and defensive-based alliances found in other places. "We encourage nations that are not interested in militarist, expansionist alliances to join the Altéa Accords. We are not asking for unwavering allegiance - but an opportunity to cooperate and communicate on common ground for the benefit of all", conclude Mondragon.

A historic night has transpired in Egelion today as national election results came in - surprising many. For months, several groups and individuals expressed their dissatisfaction with the Conservative Party, who actively promoted a "boring political scene" according to many. While the Conservatives did implement several reforms and opened up Altea to different geopolitical landscapes, the domestic front was relatively tame and predictable. The Caillean People's Party, while largely focused on Caillean affairs, made a large appeal to Egelian citizens. The CPP made three specific promises during their national campaign: A return to constitutionalism, the rebranding of leftist politics, and the continuation of Egelian prosperity. With new funding and a years-long effort to promote their cause, just as predictions stated, the CPP reached a full majority in the Royal Court.

Out of 300 total seats in the court, the CPP took 157 of them, an extra six to maintain a full majority. The Royalists came in second place with 81 votes. All other parties received even less votes, bringing their total numbers to 143. This massive victory for the Caillean People's Party is not only a significant leftist mandate for the people of Egelion, but for the institution of the monarchy. The leader of the CPP, Arturo Capdevila, who has already met with his Majesty in private, stated during his victory speech that he would directly work with His Majesty to ensure that his position as a ceremonial, unifying figure would be respected. However, he stated hat Constitutionalism is now the "mandate of the Egelian people". By law and by his teachings, the emperor has moral and political obligation to comply with the result.

The CPP's win also has significant effects on the economy. Because of the potential transition towards a new form of government, investors and traders at the Altea-Nord Stock Exchange have reacted accordingly. Futures at the stock exchange were projected at -2.5%, with some industries nearing almost a negative of 4%. This transition to losses is "natural and expected", says the Royal Councilor Cascabel. "Egelion is currently in the midst of a major political realignment, it would be unusual to see the markets react positively to such an outcome", concluded the councilor. Her position is not one that many disagree with. While the government is heading towards a leftist, constitutional monarchy, some say that the loss of the laissez-faire absolutist regulations would cause more strain on the economy. Capdevila stated that regardless of the political direction of the country, the Egelian economy will have a hiccup to adjust to the new policies under a constitutional government.

Overall while the Caillean People's Party have ushered in a new era of leftist constitutionalist politics, the economy, culture and people of Egelion may take a while to stabilize after a major pillar of Egelian society has just been dealt a major blow. Future developments  and negotiations between His Majesty and the Royal Court are expected to make a fascinating and entertaining political spectacle.

With the CPP's win over other Egelian parties in national elections, leader Arturo Capdevila and a team of future legislators were invited to Villamor Palace this week to engage in deep negotiations with Hiss Majesty and the Royal Council on how to proceed with creating a constitution for the Kingdom of Egelion. From recent reports, His Majesty was open to negotiations, acknowledging that his power would likely be uprooted and divided between the councilors and the legislature. His Majesty, trained and educated under Enlightened Absolutist ideology, understands that form of government  truly remains beneficial for the people of Egelion so long as he balances their will and his own power. The will of the people, who have chosen to move on from an absolutist government, now exceed even his own power. Due to this massive imbalance, enlightened absolutism has reached its end. His Majesty understands this position and has decided to renegotiate his position.

Arturo Capdevila, with the the desires and will of the people on his mind, gave the Royal Council a balanced approach: The Royal Court--who currently has the power to recommend laws--would receive full legislative powers. Their powers would include: passing laws, approving members to the Royal Council (which would receive new executive restrictions), and decide all monetary laws such as taxation. A fully powered Royal Court would bring "balance and a clear division of powers", says Capdevila. Egelion's current flaw is that legislation and all policy decisions are left to His Majesty who, despite acknowledging the people's will, leaves no room for the people to choose their own future. When Royal Councilors were asked why this was the case, they simply reiterated: "the people cannot be trusted to act in their own good faith. They will actively seek to enhance their own lives while eliminating progress for others. We cannot enact a social contract for them to govern themselves--it will simply lead to corruption."

His Majesty however is not fully in tune with the approach by the Royal Council, who may have let their decades in power cloud their judgement. His Majesty claims that a system in which the people cannot truly voice their opinions and still be forced to pay taxes and serve in armed forces is "pure authority and robbery of human dignity." No matter how liberal, progressive, or open a nation may be--the loss of the people's voice in the country's future is nothing short of pure authoritarianism and unrealistic governance. Capdevila's requests for a full legislative body in the Royal Court was accepted while Royal Councilors were fully against the idea. Based on the first negotiations, it seems His Majesty will run into more issues with the Royal Council instead of the newly elected CPP who seek nothing more than to create an indestructible system of checks and balances.

Royal Family Welcomes Community Leaders to Sorsuela Palace as Tense Constitution Negotiations Continue

For the past couple of months, all branches of the Egelian government have stepped in to play their part in negotiating a new constitution for the nation following a victorious election from the Caillean People's Party (CPP). For the most part, negotiations have gone by smoothly as His Majesty has made several concessions of his power, forcing members of the Royal Court to do the same. Yet, the new constitution does not only focus on executive powers but legislative ones as well. Last week, members of the CPP brought in new proposals for debate at the Royal Court. These new proposals included how much power should the legislature have and what roles should they assume after the monarch is stripped of absolute power. 

The CPP proposed that the legislature should have major checks on the monarch itself seeing as the CPP will allow His Majesty to keep some authority in the new constitution. CPP deputies stated that the legislature should have the power to remove the monarch at all times. Royalist Party members - also hard core absolutists - denounced the ideas, claiming they went against the will of God himself. Royalist Party members quickly fired back and stated that the monarch should not be subjected to direct power plays from the Royal Court itself. This disagreement over the legislature's power over the monarch got heated. CPP deputies called the Royalists "glazers and simps" while Royalists called those from the CPP "power hungry maggots."

The debate quickly spiraled into a massive argument, with the Speaker of the Court unable to wrangle in the deputies. Approximately 15 minutes into the argument, Royalist Party deputy Alonso Villar (56) walked over the center aisle to the CPP side. He immediately attacked and threw down Rigoberto Hernan (45), a vocal member of the CPP. The two fought causing a massive uproar in the chamber that required involving the Royal Guard to separate them. Two other members of the CPP, Jorge Chaidez and Saul Alcalde were briefly involved in the fight and got injuries due to being slammed against the corners of the deputy desks. 

In the heat of the moment, Alonso Villar, the main aggressor, shouted a phrase that has encompassed the moment in the Royal Court. In Villar's words, he claimed: "I will kill this facker!". The words have been used by the CPP to describe just how much absolutism has corrupted the hearts of some Egelian politicians.

"A shimmering, divine performance worthy of praise from the gods themselves", says Alicia Zavala, one of the main directors at the Royal Opera in Altea. "We expected perfection and a strong delivery - we got exactly that. Zavala's comments are a reference to her latest leadership role in directing Chaykovsky's "Swan River". The Trigunian composer's global classical sensation returned to his season of the Royal Opera as expected. Several pre-orders and new season ticket holders reserved seats for this show as soon as it was available for the public. Martin Herros, main composer at the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Altea, took up the call to lead the Royal Opera's team for two weeks while Swan River was premiering. Herros (54), a longtime director and part composer, states that his favorite piece of all time is in fact Swan River. He states that the "dreamy, whimsical and often dramatic elements of the piece bring out the best of the human spirit. Emotions, dreams, and fantasies run wild and free such as the elegant flight of the white swan."

As director of the play, Zavala speaks on the preparations needed to carry out such a large performance for days. Over 125 total performers are involved in the production of the play, with each performer playing a distinct role. Zavala says, "It really is a challenge to ensure that we're all on the same page. My team however loves the challenges and risks involved. We have hours of practice... of dedication..... and pure skill to take us where we need to be. Chaykovsky of course was a man of precision and fluidity. We hope that our performance encapsulates his vision." Zavala's team of 125 performers and 67 stage crew personnel have taken on a tremendous task. With the help of a director from the most prestigious symphony orchestra in the world, the team at the Royal Opera bring quality and precision to their craft.

Ballet and opera often go underrepresented in Terra as popular sources of culture and media. Yet in Egelion, classical music, opera, orchestra and other types of ancient arts have always flourished thanks to their institutionalization decades ago. Swan River and the team at the Royal Ballet and Opera resident an almost lost art. A forgotten fragment of art and culture lost to modernity. Just last week, Baltusian-Kanjorien actor Timmie Charleroi stated on a popular talk show that "nobody likes opera", clarifying that that "nobody cares". While idiotic comments such as those from Charleroi are carried with ignorance and doltish undetones, the reasoning behind these statements are not unfounded. Opera and ballet are finding themselves at the end of a long line of cultural expression. The performances this week at the Royal Ballet and Opera show us a glimpse that all is not lost for the forgotten arts, for they thrive in Egelion. Zavala has advocated for more shows internationally, stating that there are several pieces of work available to perform and enjoy. "In a vast world of regurgitated media, pop-infused clone music, and cheap cinematic pieces... Sometimes the people must turn back to the cultural and artistic foundations to find true quality and emotions lost to modernity."

In a historic occasion meant to mark history books, The Holy Luthorian Empire, in their full capacity, has officially engaged in a full state visit in Egelion. On a mid-February morning, Emperor Leon Alexander and Empress Isabella travelled to Villamor Palace to receive the Luthorian Royals. The Emperor and Empress do not live at Villamor Palace despite it being the official residence of the monarch. The couple took a 20 minute drive from Sorsuela Palace to Villamor in order to be present at the occasion. The Luthorian Emperor and Empress arrived at the royal family's private airport in the western suburbs of the city at approximately noon. They were greeted by Royal Councilor Andrea Mondragon, herself a family member to the late Empress Valeria, mother of the current Luthorian Emperor. The Emperor and Empress were taken to the Royal Family's primary state vehicle, a luxury sedan wagon from Cailleano-Petra.

The Luthorian Emperor and Empress were taken along Avenida del Rey, the main boulevard crossing through the heart of Altea. Their trip to Villamor Palace took them through the illustrious Sorseula District and the financial Centro District. The arrival at Villamor Palace was met by the Royal Procession Band and a healthy amount of palace guard. The Luthorian couple were escorted from the vehicle and brought to the entrance of the palace where Emperor Leon Alexander and Empress Isabella waited to greet them. Their greeting could best be described as "respectful and formal", according to Villamor Palace who relayed information to the press during the entire visit.

The meeting began with a "conversation of all matters" in the East Wing Tea Room. There, both Emperors and Empresses enjoyed a full, Egelian ceremonial tea ceremony. Pastries, treats, sandwiches and scones were brough to the royals--along with the most high quality Vascanian tea blends. The palace chef, Antoine Didier, created a special fusion of Egelian and Luthorian treats to accompany the tea ceremony. At this moment, the Emperor's both took some direct questions from the press. Questions were asked of the recent treatment of the Luthorian royals in the Egelian press, to which Emperor Leon Aleander stated: "It is in the past and not a direct comment or official position of House Montalivet in any capacity".

The empresses then took a walk around the palace ground, enjoying Empress Isabella's personal garden on the rear slopes of the estate. They returned inside 20 minutes later to talk about personal works and charitable capacities both empresses have had in the past. It culminated into a jewelry session where Empress Isabella displayed some of the Crown Jewels to the curious Empress Victoria. The Luthorian empress was interested in the amount of Canrillaise crown jewels that existed in the collection. Seemingly, the Empress Victoria was overheard by palace staff commenting on the collection's "extensive uniqueness". 

The following and last day of the visit focused on culture and politics. The royals from both countries were transported to the Verstafen District of the city, the place where most Artanian immigrants reside. Here, the royals visited book shops, tea houses, commerce chambers, and small art museums. The Luthorian Emperor was impressed with the Luthorian - and other Artanian cultures - present in Egelion. The Emperor even visited a local office from The Times (Egelion) and personally greeted the several Luthorian journalists at the location. In the end, Emperor Leon Alexander made a comment to Emperor William about the narrative between Luthori and Egelion: "As you may witness, Your Imperial Majesty, relations between our countries are more positive than you may know. The media and international sources may create conflicting views between our peoples, but the evidence here shows the opposite. We are natural friends through law and blood. There is no reason to believe that such foreign policies we adopt do not have space for a benign relations between us. Altea is always open to friendship that transcends the boundaries set upon the pen and paper. It is up to the Luthorian Empire to decide what route it wishes to take in the future" The visit ended with a final dinner at Villamor Palace, where both Emperors took a drink of fine Canrillaise wine.

Today at noon, Emperor Leon Alexander officially declared and signed the new Constitution of the Kingdom of Egelion, bringing an end to absolutist rule in the country. The new constitution was under debate for several years as the Caillean People's Party brough several republican and socialist appeals to the negotiations, while the King and the Royal Council fought to keep several monarchist aspects in the new constitution. In the end, the Royal Council was able to negotiate favorable terms with the CPP, keeping some of the main monarchist terms in the deal. Throughout the entire process, His Majesty was open to the CCP's proposals and even meeting with community leaders to consider how a change in his influence would affect businesses and communities in the nation. The Emperor's overall approach and leadership gave him a strong position for negotiations. At the end of the day, while the Emperor's power has greatly diminished he still holds significant influence over the Egelian government.

Constitutional proceedings focused on two major things: the establishment of a true legislative process and the establishment of checks & balances. The overall changes were widely accepted between the CPP and House Montalivet. The Emperor would have three major powers: the ability to appoint members to the Royal Council, command over the armed forces, and the power to dissolve the Royal Court. The legislative branch of the Egelian government is now split onto two chambers: the upper Royal Council and the lower Royal Court. Each chamber now has different legislative powers that in turn, place checks on the judicial and on the monarch. The Royal Court is now responsible for the legislative future of Egelion instead of one person. Emperor Leon Alexander, from the beginning, told the press that the new constitution would be a new future for the country, one grounded in democracy and the voice of the people." He cleared the arguments or absolutism, stating: "those who do not prioritize their people are simply a totalitarian state."
