Pound loses value as effects of central bank's interest rates cut felt in economy.
November 5687

The Bank of Luthori's infamous decision to cut interest rates by a whopping 2% during Prime Minister Parker-Stanford's early years in office still has repercussions on the Luthorian economy to this day, thanks to a low growth that was exacerbated by the relative lack of domestic incentive to invest in Luthori, the Pound entered a difficult period compared to many foreign cureencies, losing a non-negligeable amount of its worth, impacting its reputation among global investors.

For numerous economists, the Pound losing value compared to other currencies was to be expected, although this wasn't the line defended by the government to justify this decision. For the Parker-Stanford ministry, this was an unfortunate, but ultimately necessary endeavor, as they argue that the interest rates' dramatic cuts would mean that through them, more and more investors would be interested in investing directly in Luthori.

This didn't happen. While foreign and domestic investors were arguably interested by the risk posed by Luthori cutting its interest rates, many others were far more cautious in their operations, arguing against investments in Luthori except if that sudden change in policy was first followed by domestic investors.

It wasn't to be. As well, domestic investors were scared by the risk that direct investment was, especially if such a decision but in rising the interest rates in a dramatic level was done.

As of now, the "Global Luthorian Pound" index or GLP Index, published by the Financial Herald, take into account the value of the Luthorian Pound compared to a select numbers of global currencies, the first being the Canrillaise Fleur (CFR), even with the Canrillaise Empire's fade from global affairs, its influence and marks are still present in the Luthorian financial world, the Istalian Lira (ISL), the Narik-Darnussian Credits (NDC), the Egelian Corona (ECA) and the Yeudi Shekel (YSK). These flive currencies are considered to be the most powerful currencies currently operating.

As of today, four years following the cut, and with subsuquent decisions from the Bank of Luthori to steadily rise interest rates to combat the rise of inflation upon Luthorian households and to.combat the steady decrease in value of the Pound. While slow, the Index's value decreased by 0.94% over these four years, with its lowest point being in 5683. After that date, the index's value steadily rose again. While not really that impressive of a loss in value compared to other global currencies, the damage to the reputation of the Luthorian Pound (£) was long-lasting, with Luthorian governance and handling of the events heavily criticised by both domestic and international observers.

For the Luthorian government, the decision of cutting drastically the interest rates is now seen as a "lost opportunity" as intetest rates slowly went back up during these four years, today remaining stable at 3.25% since June 5687. The government, in order to respond to the needs of its traditional electorate for renewed economic growth and renewed consumerism, will have to find new solutions to the Luthorian economic stagnation crisis.

State visit to Kundrati by His Majesty ends; Luthorian gov't land buying in outskirts of Kasaema to host Luthorian embassy.
December 5687

Emperor Richard II and Empress Valeria went to Kundrati on 12 October and just finished their relatively short trip to the nation, the Emperor's state visit has been carefully prepared by both the Luthorian and Kundrati governments so as to avoid any potential missteps or errors in communications that might lead to renewed tensions between both states.

The monarch arrived at Kasaema, on Wednesday 12, in a rainy afternoon after flying by private jet from Fort William were welcomed by officials from the Kundrati government. Then, they were guided to the Presidential Residence, where they both met with Kundrati President Kubitchek and members of the Kundrati presidential administration.

Due to the exceptional nature of the visit, the Luthorian monarch spent his nights at the Palazio Hotel in Kasaema, the hotel was heavily guarded by Kundrati police by fear of some attempting to the lives of the monarchs.

Emperor Richard II and Empress Valeria have had a state dinner hosted by Mrs. Kubitchek in honor of their visit, there, Hid Majesty spoke about the "strength" and "resilience" of the Kundrati people, that had "through adversity", successfully rebuilt their nation from the evils of fascism and authoritarianism.

Although, he warned that Kundrati's freedom was merely a fact of life thanks to the sacrifice of numerous servicemen and women from different ethnicities, nationalities and background. All united by the fact that they had once fought to preserve and fight for Kundrati democracy and sovereighty.

Moreover, the monarch stated his profound "worry" that the identities of Luthorians subjects who had died to defend Kundrati democracy and were presumed missing or dead, but not identified, would remain as this, unidentified. The Emperor encourages both his government and the Kundrati government to engage in "reasonable methods" of bilateral collaboration to ensure that these soldiers are able to go home.

The Luthorian Prime Minister was absent, as was the Foreign Secretary. But the Cabinet nonetheless announced, in the wake of His Majesty's visit, that Luthori had bought acres of lands that His Majesty's Government aimed to massively transform into a new Luthorian embassy in Kundrati. For now, diplomatic representation would be held at the former Embassy of Luthori in Kundrati, although this building are to be destroyed in favor of new, more modern installations that will host the Ambassador.

Emperor Richard II visited the renmants of Luthori's former diplomatic representation in Kundrati alongside President Kubitchek, the monarch's visit marking the first time that a reigning Luthorian monarch visited the embassy in Kundrati. The Emperor and Empress looking visibly perplexed about the state of the building. Following this visit and during the entirety of Emperor Richard II's state visit, the Luthorian government was being in communication with the Kundrati government in order to achieve some agreement of sort.

While discussions between the two government weren't leaked, the Prime Minister's Office stated that they "went well" and all things aside may lead to believe that the two governments may sign an agreement restoring relations and entering economic exchanges.

Luthori's public-owned television and radio network has today made an annoucement on the state of its global operations, while currently, only the LBC website is available to foreigners through a direct communication in their language, the national public broadcaster declared that a brand, new "World Service" network was to be established.

For the Luthorian public-owned TV and radio magnate, this move aims at the expansion of its viewership and readership base, through the implementation of new TV and radio channels in different languages, notably Egelian, Yeudi, Canrillaise and Istalian. As it stands, the LBC merely announced that it would "enter a series of negotiations with national regulatory authorities", with the stated goal being at opening the first non-Luthorian-based LBC television and radio channel by 5690.

The Luthorian Broadcasting Corporation promises that their new channels will be driven by "fact and not sensationalism" and that its broadcasting will be "locally-produced", they are stating that the LBC news broadcast would be "trying to be unbiased and factual" about the domestic and international developments happening worldwide.

According to the LBC Chairman, Dr. Robert Singh (Vascanian-Luthorian), who himself pushed for the creation of a separate world service to report on world affairs for a foreign audience, this move was carefully prepared in advance, as discussions about the necessity of such an organisation raised eyebrows within the LBC. He, for his part, stated that the World cannot be excepted to be listening to international news from a Luthorian perspective and that it would be a "mistake" not to include other foreign point of views, which in his mind are tied to the creation of a specialised division of the LBC aimed directly at a goreign audience.

As of now, no real intel was shared on the location of the first LBC channels, the LBC withholding these announcement until the update to their website will be operational. For the LBC, the priority will be to provide a new form of information, providing a neutral and unbiased source of information for all, although the fact that this information will be treated from a Luthorian state-owned media raised doubts upon the network's integrity and truthfulness in matters related to the Luthorian Empire.

For Director Singh, these shouldn't be doubted at all. "We are aware of issues in the Luthorian Empire, we are covering these issues for our domestic audience to be aware of them, although we recognise that our coverage is far from perfect at all levels, we strive at providing the best information, one that isn't riddled with biases and partial in its coverage, that is our everleasting aim. And we are trying to reach that level of dilligence and excellence that is expected from home at home, I do not see a reason why not applying the rigourous standards that we are applying here at home to our foreign broadcasting network."

The state-owned media organisation will be, creating new small television channels in a selection of countries, while expanding its radio service and internet services throughout Terra. The new TV channels will be specifically designed to fit either a nation or an extended "compact of nations", basically, nations with a similar geographic and cultural status, here the LBC will aim at creating an expanded TV channel picking up news from numerous nations and broadcasting it to these said nations simultaneously. The Luthorian Broadcasting Corporation's new TV and radio channels are stated to be in the language of their country of broadcasting. It also opens doors for expansions of such channels into other nations that might share a common language as well.

The LBC also stated that, in line with this new policy, a wider international-minded TV channel will be broadcasted worldwide, with its main news programs being in Luthorian and speaking to a wider audience about international topics, tensions, finance and policies.

Following the Bank of Luthori's decision to leave interest rates at a low level following sensible rises during the last five years in order to combat the subtle devaluation of the Luthorian currency in opposition to other foreign currencies, according to research made by the Financial Herald and the results coming from the Global Luthorian Pound Index (GLP Index), which tracks the value of the Pound compared to other major world-influential currencies.

Following this decision to leave interest rates at a stable 3.35% after correction from the Bank of Luthori in recent months, investors breathed a sigh of relief, after 5 years, the Luthorian government had reassured investors by not agressively rising interest rates due to the threats to its currency, this rising confidence in the Bank of Luthori's economic strategy to encourage investment in Luthori seems to finally bear fruit.

The Grand Duchy of Middenriding and the Grand Duchy of Shipleyriding are Luthori's only connection to the Artanian Sea, and as such, due to their prime location, became Luthori's favorite summer vacation location, excluding Fort William itself. Both provinces are heavily visited during the summer, as they present tourists with an exquisite view of the Artanian Sea through its fine sand beaches, these influx of tourists every summer created the perfect opportunity for the development of a seasonal hotel industry, coupled with a seasonal recreational industry (restaurants, cinema, and other activities).

It seems that in hope of capitalising over the low interest rates currently being applied, and in a bid to encourage potential buyers to buy or loan new properties, real estate corporations are becoming increasingly interested at the prospect of enhancing the potential economic growth in these regions, which will lead to housing demand increasing in these regions, which is exactly their objective in order to primarily develop suburbs around the large cities, hence increasing their profits.

Some might say why real estate corporations are the one most interested by the prospect of increasing economic growth in a targeted region for their benefit instead of the Luthorian government and it seems that we'll never know much about this interest. But nevertheless, large real estate corporations might enter a partnership with construction companies to build a select number of new homes to first encourage people who are currently hesitating to move to these coastal regions to give it a try.

Adding to this, current pressure from both the Middenriding and Shipleyriding governments to the central government for increased funding for infrastrucuture aimed at transporting tourists to the seaside stations, that include a renovation of the Fort William-Middenhall high-speed railway and the Fort William-Shipley high-speed line, with others asking the Luthorian government and the Imperial Railway Corporation to build a high-speed line directly between Shipley and Middenhall, which is currently rejected by the LBC due to the lack of "real need" for a high-speed line.

Currently, the tourism industry remains the two provinces' most valuable assets, with revenue generated from tourism impacting both states' yearly budgets in a posititve manner, but nevertheless, the interest for development from public and private officials might lead to that contribution increasing over the years as tourism sees a boost from corporations which would benefit the most from its development in the next years.

The Luthorian Museum of History and Antiquities has announced that, at the request of Emperor Richard II himself, that, the Luthorian infamous "Yeudi Gem", identified as being the Meleh's Gem, will be removed from the Crown's jewels guarded at the Tower of Fort William and will be transfered to the Luthorian Museum to be exposed in a collection reminscing about Yeudi-Luthorian art links throughout history.

The decision to remove the Meleh's Gem from the Crown Jewels is in itself unprecedented, no Luthorian monarch acted in such a way every since the other gem held by the House of Orange-Villayn was brought back to Beiteynu. Then to Xsampa and is now residing in Hutori. The Luthorian monarch's decision is for now unexplained, but regardless of the reasoning behind it, the Meleh's Gem is being transferred from the Tower of Fort William to the Luthorian Museum.

Its exposure at the museum is expected to begin on September 8th, 5688 with the beginning of the exposition that should take place for the next two years, until 5690 or 5691, according to statements from Museum staff. The exposition aims to celebrate the millenial history shared between the Luthorian and Yeudi peoples as the latter are currently engulfed in a prolonged civil war.

The monarch's office accepted to make a statement about the Emperor-King's decision to remove the Yeudi gem from the Crown Jewels, through a statement released by the Orange Palace.

Quote:"His Majesty the Emperor thinks that it's the best decision for everyone to allow for a closer look of the public of the Imperial Family's Crown Jewels. The Emperor already made that decision by allowing the exposition of the Imperial State Crown at the Tower of Fort William for a limited exposition. In the spirit of greater transparency wished by His Imperial Majesty, the decision has been made as such. Furthermore, the Emperor, aware of the plight of the Yeudi peoples at the Holy Land considered the exposition has a right opportunity to celebrate the links between Luthori and the Holy Land through its people."

The Emperor-King's decision was widely applauded, with Yeudi-Luthorian interest groups "thanking" the Luthorian monarch for the "opportunity" of looking to the gem through their own eyes, even if for a limited period of time. Usually, the gem is only shown during the Coronation ceremonies of the Luthorian monarch, as the gem is present at the scepter held by the Luthorian Emperor during the ceremonies.

Reactions in Yishelem hasn't been made yet, the Humperdinck-owned paper media, the Yishelem Post, is expected to release a paper about the Holy Land Yeudis' reaction to the exposition, but as usual with these type of events, it seems likely that the gem causes a rise in Yeudi tourism in the months following the exposition's start.

Others, however, sees a cunning and subtle reminder that the Luthorian monarch is a wielder of one of the eight Yeudi gems, and as such, is entitled to take the throne of Yishelem if requested upon, this interpretation is also shared by many historians who have studied Luthorian-Yeudi history of complex diplomatic relations, entangled with royal succession issues, as once, the Luthorian monarch was the King of the Yeudi Homeland, the last Luthorian monarch to have the title was Emperor Charles VII, before being deposed at the favor of the Canrillaise House of Orléans-Vasser.

Many are wondering about the possible repercussions that this might have on the Luthorian monarchy's overall reputation in the Holy Land and many are doubting the sincerity of the Palace's statement, as in their eyes, the Emperor might just be doing that to score points with the Yeudi peoples.

Both the Luthorian and Kundratijian governments have announced that, after months of negotiations, that they had reached a common agreement on the restoration of bilateral cross-sea relations. This process, in the making ever since Emperor Richard II's state visit in late 5687 turned up succesfully for both sides, finding an agreement that answered to both governments' needs and expectations.

Following Emperor Richard II's state visit in mid-October 5687, where the Luthorian monarch met with Kundrati president Kubitchek and other high-ranking Kundrati authorities, the decision has been made to formally engage in a process of restoration of bilateral relations, a process which was kickstarted by the purchase of 4 acre of land in the western suburbs of Kasaema.

This purchase is aimed at creating a new building which will act as the Luthorian Ambassador's residence after his appointment as such. According to the aforementioned agreement, the Holy Luthori Empire and the Kundrati Union have agreed to appoint a new ambassador to act as their main diplomatic representation in both countries "as soon as possible".

The Luthorian government, as such, announced the appointment of former Prime Minister Howe as the first Ambassador of the Holy Luthorian Empire to the Kundrati Union, the move, encouraged by the bipartisan appeal of the former head of government gives more credibility to the Luthorian wish to restore relations as they were before the fascist takeover of government in Kundrati.

The former Prime Minister's office accepted to give Mr. Howe's remarks on his nomination as Ambassador, stating that he "wows to act in good faith and represent Luthorians in Kundrati with the best of his abilities", expressing his "joy" at seeing the process of normalisation going, in his words "smoothly".

The Prime Minister's Office stated that the nomination of Mr. Howe as Ambassador of Luthori to Kundrati was a "symbol of peace and a gesture to express the full committment of the Luthorian state to the restoration of credible and rational relations with Kundrati."

Other than the appointment of a new Ambassador, restoring political relations between the two nations, the negotiations also entered the delicate subject of the restoration of economic relations. Once upon a time, Luthori and Kundrati were exchanging goods in such a manner that they could be considered as reliable and major trade partners. This era is no more. Kundrati's economy and industry drastically scaled back in comparaison to other worldwide powers.

This caused the trade and economic discussion to be mostly one-sided, as it was, according to diplomats present during negociations, mostly the Luthorians making propositions and the Kundrati delegation either rejecting or accepting them.

The final economic agreement involved the creation of an investment program, managed by the Government of Luthori through the Foreign Office's Foreign Investment Bank, which will allow Luthorian companies to invest either directly or indirectly with Kundrati. Another term was the subsuquent creation of a loan program to the Government of Kundrati to allow for an influx of capital, allowing it to continue investments into its economy.

Finally, the final term, requested by the Luthorians was the trade of gold and silicon towards Luthori, in exchange, the Luthorians, through two microchips corporations, Invergn and MicroLTD pledged for direct investments in Kundrati and expertise sharing with Kundratijians.

Expectations are that trade between both nations is to be restored shortly, as Luthorian corporations are eyeing a fragile market, with high demand and little competition against them, allowing them to exports greater quantities of products to Kundrati. Adding to this, investors are relieved by the restoration of relations between Kasaema and Fort William, as it means that the western side of the Artanian Sea will remain peaceful for the years to come.

The Department of Foreign Affairs' remarks on the ongoing political and humanitarian situation in Selucia.

Quote:His Majesty's Government, through the Department of Foreign Affairs, joins in concord with the international community in expressing its stern condemnation of the actions of persecution orchestrated by the Selucian junta

These policies of selective discrimination of the country's Yeudi population aim at systemically persecuting the Selucian Yeudis for their religious beliefs for false historical prejudice made upon Selucia by the former nation of Beiteynu.

Our message to the Selucian junta is clear, Beiteynu is no more and the persecution of your own Yeudi population due to your poor sense of historical research and fact-checking isn't acceptable.

As such, His Majesty's Government has today announced that economic sanctions would be undertaken against the Selucian state, following in line with precedent and concording statements from the Amudim city-states and the Imperial State of Istalia. Such sanctions includes:

- The freezing and seizure of any and all Selucian assets present in Luthorian banking corporations.
- An embargo on Selucian merchandise, with Luthorian ports ordered to seize any Selucian illegal commodity within their jurisdiction.
And others, whose details will he revealed by the Hon' Foreign Secretary during his remarks at the Chamber of Representatives on Wednesday.

HM Government reaffirms its committment to global peace and cooperation and its anti-discrimination stance through this set of measures, aimed at economically crippling the fledging dictatorship. The Rt' Hon. Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, stated the following message.

"The Selucians have, unfortunately, once again, plunged headfirst into the disease that is authoritarianism, as if that was their nature. Today, only the Selucian people can take back the freedom stolen from them by their leaders. Until then, HM Government will continue to enforce sanctions upon the state."

Foreign Secretary Davy Harper announced today that he would make a tour in both the Kingdom of Egelion and the Anantonese Empire. Mr. Harper stated, in "light of long and tenous negotiations" with Egelion, it was "his responsibilty" to meet Egelian officials to officially sign the trade agreement that both countries have been negotiating. And for Kalistan, he stated that it was "important to continue the work engaged by the Prime Minister in renewing dialogue between the Luthorian and Kalistani empires".

For the Foreign secretary, the most important aspect of his visit is the fufillment of months of careful.diplomatic negotiations between the Egelians and Luthorians, focused on deepening the trade relationship between the two nations, similar to what the Luthorians did in their previous agreement with Xsampa. According to the responsible minister, Luthori and Egelion will both commit at the joint increase of traded commodities in this agreement, helping to foster a climate of trust between the two nations to allow for the fruitful enforcement of said agreement and the continuation of cordial bilateral ties.

For the Anantonese Empire, the Foreign Secretary places himself in the succession of his predecessor's policy, maintaining the current policy of "detente" between Ananto and Luthori, this, in his view, passes by the sustained efforts by both government to keep the channels of diplomatic communication opened, either through their Ambassadors in each respective states or through numerous meetings between ministers.

Luthori's foreign minister is also to meet with Luthorian ambassadors in both Egelion and Kalistan during his visit, indicating his support for the Luthorian diplomatic service overseas.

It is currently unclear whether or not the Luthorian foreign minister will meet with King Leon Alexander or Empress-in-Waiting Carolina (more likely: Princess Regent Nicolette Ananto-Collins), as neither the Luthorian foreign office nor other ministries related of such a move in their respective press releases.

The Chamber of Representatives today voted on, at the government's initiative, the recognition of the Nadiyan Confederation as the legitimate successor state(s) to the Tsardom of Trigunia. Luthori's relationship remains in limbo ever since the collapse of Trigunia into warlordism and splinter states, and Luthorian diplomatic relations were severed due to that fact.

Even following the unification of the various governments that had seceded from the Tsardom into one, single, multiethnic confederation with the name of "Nadiya", Luthori still hasn't moved towards a stance of official recognition of the new government, as they considered the confederal government to be "too unstable" to weather the storm of instability that had griped the region ever since its collapse into bickering warlord states wying for control of the former Tsardom's territory.

With the Nadiyan Confederation having, ultimately, survived and even thrived in its new environment, stabilising its economy and entering diplomatic relations with other states, Luthori's non-recognition of the Nadiyan Confederation remained, with numerous officials calling for the Luthorian government to reassess its position on the matter, describing Luthori's continued opposition at normalisation and recognition as being "dumbfolding", but the Luthorian gov't didn't act, until now.

At the initiative of Foreign Secretary, the Chamber of Representatives, with a large margin of 512-16-1, voted in favor of the "Nadiya Normalisation Act 5689", empowering the government to officially recognise and engage in diplomatic relations with the Nadiyan Confederation, such as sending an ambassador to engage in official state-level talks with the confederal government and small-scale consulate to engage with the different Nadiyan governments, the Act was later passed by the Senate, by a similar margin, 217-3-5, and was granted imperial assent on the next day.

To follow up on his success, the Foreign Secretary announced that he, in the latest stages of his trip to Egelion and Kalistan will stop by Nadiya and meet its representatives to officially enforce the Normalisation Act through this visit. He stated that he would "pass by" Nadiya after his meetings with the Egelian and Kalistani governments.

Luthori's government just announced that the nation would be committing more of its national budget on defence spending between 5689 and 5690. This announcement was made by Chancellor of the Exchequer Harbin in response to "global security threats", pointing out to the war in New Endralon and in the Holy Land as reasons for the military budget increase. Rising worldwide military spending has also been invoked as a factor in the government's ultimate decision.

This change of course in terms of policy was encouraged by Defence Secretary Allen, who argued that Luthorian reluctance at "engaging its strength" at the "everchanging tides" that the world is currently engaged into, it would, in his mind, fall behind other nations in terms of combat readiness.

Military headquarters are expected to welcome the government's decision, as it allows them to have more leeway with their actions with the government's support through the rise of the military budget. The cabinet's decision is ultimately aimed at engaging more resources at the military's disposal to allow for its continued reinforcement. The budget raise of 1.5% will be primarily engaged towards defence research and development programs, as Muthori retains a detailed, diverse set of weapons ready for exportation, and through its inclusion in the Equifund defence sale interface, it allows Luthorian defence corporations to engage in arms sales with more clients through the Yeudi Neset.

In order to fund these new defence expenditures, the Luthorian government announced that it would fund these measures through an exceptional tax increase upon Luthorians, for the government, these cuts are of the "public concern for its safety and security in an increasingly unstable global environment", so an exceptional tax of £30 per person was decided upon to fund these new changes. With a taxable population of around 108 million Luthorians (aged 18+), the Treasury plans that an influx of £3.24 billions into the state treasury, funds that will then be used to find the military and other related projects.

Currently, Luthori's military budget stands at £74.5 billion, out of an entire GDP of £6.42 trillions, this budget represented merely 1.15% of Luthori's entire GDP, with that small increase in percentage, the budget will slightly move, passing from 74.5 to 75.6 billion in defence spending. The portion of GDP that this new budget will take is going to be of approximately 1.17% of Luthori's GDP.

Currently, Luthori funds its military wth 1.17% of its GDP, by 5700, the government hopes to increase it to 3%, an increase of 1.83% in over a decade, and the military budget following this increase are estimated to be around £192.6 billions. An objective described as "realistic" by the defence ministry, who vows to "advance step by step" until Luthori reach an "acceptable part of its GDP spent on its protection".

Nevertheless, the new defence spending policy isn't all that popular, the Labour opposition denounced a "sham" by the Tory government aimed at "ripping" Luthorians off their "social welfare benefits" by committing more to defense than on social services and the healthcare sector, furthermore, numerous economists state that the government lacked "transparency" on the manner of funding these new defence expenditures, and as the national defense tax isn't due for expansion nor aimed at remaining for a long period of time, many are wondering about the manner that the government will use to fund their new agenda.

Through this new policy, the ministry of defence states that their objectives are to "modernise" the equipment of the Luthorian Armed Forces so that it's ready to face "new credible threats" to Luthorian and global security. This political message sent to Luthori's current and future adversaries seek to reinforce the world's point of view on Luthori's committment to its national defence.

Economically, the government seems to hope for economic stimulus to be generated through the successive increase in military accounts, through defence research and development (R&D) and the reinforcement of Luthori's defence industry amid higher government involvement in its flourishing.
