Foreign Secretary Schnee delivered additional remarks related to the situation in Temania – as Luthori ramps up international pressure against its former colony. Dr. Schnee addressed that the situation in Temania, while calming was far from “returning to business as usual”, he moreover added that “customary change will not satisfy the people”.  

The Temanian regime has been using brute military force to disperse the students-led demonstrations throughout the country that have rocked the nation in 5709, at that time, the Luthorian government announced the enactment of sanctions towards Temanian state officials and the freezing of Temanian government assets in Luthorian financial custody.  

Luthorian officials have said that Luthori’s commitment towards the “respect of the Temanian people’s right to fair, just and free governance” remained unwavering, as per with the recently-enacted Schnee Doctrine.

“We’ll continue this program of pressure towards Temanian officials until they acquiesce to the people’s goals of the full restoration of a free, liberal democratic Temania, ruled by its people and not by a clique of bureaucrats chosen among their peers in the Party.” said Micheal Charles, Luthori’s eastern relations minister. 

This view was confirmed by the statement of a high-ranking Luthorian officials in relation to the imperial relationship towards its former colonial domains, he stated anonymously to the LBC that “Luthori sees the recent “reforms” for what they are, a sham and a spit to the face of the people’s aspirations for freedom, democracy and human rights”. 

Redekerta announced the enactment of “democratic” reforms – while these have been well received by some, it has been criticised for being merely “token” reforms, one that didn’t go the way that protests might have hoped. It strengthens the one-party state apparatus by enshrining in the constitution the leading role of the People’s National Socialist Party in governance.

Citadel: Labour's defence budget cuts "not to impact defence projects"

Fort William - The Labour government attempted to pursue radical cuts to the military budget, only to be stopped by opposition from the Peers. Following a slimmed-down version of the budgets passed in 5710, the defence budget was decreased by 0.9%. The reason of the decrease was, according to the government to allow for “more thorough efforts to be enacted on other fields”. The National Labour Party, while in opposition, sharply criticised the Tories’ heavy focus on foreign and defence policy while in office, and had previously promised to “sharply” decrease the military budget during their term. 

Unfortunately for the government, their plans were met with the opposition of the House of Peers, which immediately rejected the first budget plan laid out by Chancellor Burke, it decreased Luthorian military budget by 1.5%, this plan was only narrowly rejected by the upper house, but this defeat weakened the government’s large hold in the Imperial Diet, forcing Prime Minister Holian-Keaty to seek out a compromise between the Opposition and the Government. 

Conservative leader Patrick Simon was initially opposed to any sort of compromise that would lead to a sharp decrease in military expenditures, but considering the urging of the Labour government towards that goal, it forced his hand, agreeing to conduct negotiations with the Holian-Keaty Administration, which led to both sides agreeing to a limited decrease of 0.9%. 

The limited decrease was balanced by the inclusion of an increase in the education and healthcare budgets – both fields having been identified as “priorities” of the Holian-Keaty government. Health Secretary Patty Sharpton (Labour) said in the House that “healthcare was totally inadequately prepared to face off against the great challenges of tomorrow” as he argued in favour of the proposed budget, which would increase the healthcare budget by 2.1%.  

While the budget passed in both the House of Peers and the Imperial Diet following the rallying of Liberal and Tory MPs following the introduction of the compromise on the military budget. It’s been observed by specialists that the Labour government has been required to use deficit spending to enact their goals. While Conservative governments aimed at maintaining a budget surplus, Chancellor Burke for his part, said that the government’s concern weren’t with the debt, which currently remains at a stable 74% of GDP, but with “providing Luthorians with the social services that have been lacking under Conservative leadership”. 

With the announced decrease in their budget, the Secretary of Defence Ashcroft remained optimistic, stating that the defence cuts would only “unremarkable and unnoticeable changes to the Imperial Armed Forces’s current development scheme”, same message on the Citadel, where Chief of the Defence Staff Gen. Craig Pennyworth addressed concerns from military personnel; saying that the defence cuts were “pre-emptively addressed by the Defence Staff” an audit conducted by the Auditor General of the Imperial Diet revealed that the 0.9% budget cut will not likely be felt on the current status of projects nor on equipment procurement and maintenance. 

This situation allows the Defence Department to continue organising defence operations and continue to strengthen its capabilities, according to a statement from the Citadel in that regard.  

A Defence White Paper for the 5710s placed the Majatran-Artanian Treaty Organisation (MATO) as the “main partner of Luthorian defence”, a move that’ll lead to revamped military strategies, considering Luthori’s continued membership of the alliance since 5707.

Following years in delays, the new IFIA headquarters have officially been inaugurated by Director-General Mow Carrey. These new headquarters were planned in 5700 to replace the current headquarters in Fort William. Then Director-General Parkinson justified the move as being a “necessary” endeavour. A reasoning that was repeated today by Director Carrey as he, alongside the Prime Minister and the Home Secretary, inaugurated the new headquarters of Luthorian foreign intelligence and counter-intelligence agency.  

Addressing the intelligence community, the Prime Minister said that the new headquarters would stand as a “bastion of Luthorian sovereignty” against outsider threats. Additionally, he proclaimed that intelligence was “more than ever needed in today’s world”, pointing at the increasing tensions between the West – led by MATO and the Eastern World – united through the Altéa Accords. *

Unfortunately, it is to be remarked, that while the Prime Minister hold this address before our intelligence community, his administration continues to slimmer down Luthorian defence capabilities in their budget, placing the Empire's military and intelligence situation into jeopardy.

Following this half-hearted address from the Prime Minister, he and the Director-General officially opened the new “Charles W. Ringdeer Intelligence Centre”, taking up the name of a former IFIA Director-General, in office between 5621 and 5624.

The Imperial Foreign Intelligence Agency will begin moving out from Fort William in March, and the total moving of operations from the capital towards this small town of Redonshire will be completed by 5711. By that point, the Fort William “National Intelligence Complex” shall be transferred to the Home Ministry for future use, the Home Secretary having expressed interest at moving out of Blackhall Palace.  

The future use of the National Intelligence Complex is currently unknown as the Home Ministry weigh in the different bidders for the usage of the building, such as the Domestic Intelligence Agency.  

Following 3 years of delay compared to the original inauguration date in 5708, the realisation of the building rose some eyebrows, after all, the cost of construction rose by 15%, reaching £902.75 millions in over 9 years since construction started in 5702, compared to the previous estimate of £785 millions over 6 years.

In a joint statement between Haseku and the Alchester Motor Company, it's been announced that both companies would enter in a "partnership", through the creation of a joint subsidiary company named "Tairikukan". This newly founded corporation will be the AMC and Haseku's first joint venture together. 

Safe to say that this partnership was unexpected, but according to reports from both corporations, both the AMC and Haseku entered negotiations following the release of the AMC’s “Gallagher” SUV. It now seems that these negotiations have been successfully carried out, with both corporations now confirming their partnership. 

The partnership between the two corporations shall be materialised through the foundation of a joint company, named Tairikukan. In the statement released by both companies, it’s been stated that the new company’s headquarters will be in Gemun, Bianjie.  

The reasoning behind this decision come from both corporations’ aim in this partnership, both companies aimed to combine their forces into creating a new corporation capable of taking on the large Dovani market. 

Haseku became the main party of this joint venture, taking over 51% of Tairikukan’s stocks while the AMC only took 49% ownership. Rather than functioning as an extension of themselves, both corporations have confirmed that Tairikukan will function as its own independent brand. 

The AMC’s Pierce Wall described the agreement with Haseku as a “wonderful development”, as the AMC tries to shore up its international credentials by working with Haseku. 

On Haseku’s part, while multiple concessions were obtained from the Luthorians, the reaction was more muted, although corporate officials welcomed the agreement with the Luthorian giant as a “positive development” that’ll contribute to the Bianjie giant’s development in international auto markets, which has been the aim of Haseku by associating itself with the Luthorian auto company. 

Tairikukan will also receive additional investment to kickstart its development, the Ward Financial Holdings through Ward Investment have agreed to provide additional investment through a bond agreement, granting the new company additional investors. The investment from Ward through the bond deal is estimated at £5.4 billion – with an interest fee to be repaid over time set at 1.2%. 

Tairikukan already announced that will be launching their new car catalogue at a later date this year.

Ministry of Education Announces Reforms to A-Level Exam – Introducing Cultural and Language Studies as a mandatory class.

Luthori’s A-Level Exam, the school leaving qualification required for high school students to have access to higher education levels hasn’t seen a reform in over 30 years, in an address, the Education Secretary announced that the government would be undertaking “structural” reforms to the exam with the stated aim of “reinforcing” the level of Luthorian students in luthorian cultural studies.  

The government has furthermore announced measures to “counter” the “declining levels in academics results” of certain students leaving high schools with gaps in knowledge compared to other students following their A-level exams. 

The A-level exam is undertaken by children between 16-18 years old and is considered one of the hardest exams in the world, currently. Students are expected to choose between two to three classes depending on their specialised fields before taking an exam which will determine their university following their graduation.  

Currently, the A-level exam only consisted of the specialised class that students chose following graduation from middle school and following their GSCE, although for next year’s exam, the government has announced undertaking measures to “tackle” the “declining levels” in academics following 30 years of Conservative austerity measures to education and relative poor upkeeping by successive ministers. 

“Education has never been a core policy of the Tories”, said Benjamin Kimball, leader of the National Teachers’ Union (NTU), he addressed the “rising inequalities in education levels” under Tory leadership, he said that “teachers have been observing a higher inequality between students coming from modest backgrounds and high-income households, while this problem has been contained since, it has been raised to the successive previous government, but never actually addressed”, he lamented the Labour government’s “misplaced focus” on “fake excellence” rather than “addressing the real issues with the Luthorian education system”. 

This rising inequality has also been said to have been a priority of Education Secretary McDornall, who stated that through the increased budget granted to the Ministry of Education that “investments towards medium and low-income areas education through different measures aimed at countering the rising trend of inequality shall be enacted” - the stated aim being to “leave every young Luthorians with the same opportunities in life, regardless of their upbringing”, he moreover added that “education must raise the best people, with the best abilities to the highest offices”, in an address detailing the Labour Party’s education policy. 

Returning to the A-level exam reforms, the government announced that beginning next year, a class of “Cultural and Language Studies” shall be created and be made mandatory for students before taking their exam, making attendance required. This class shall explore students’ “lingustic and cultural skills and knowledge” and will attempt to “expand” said knowledge. In the exam – general questions about Luthorian culture in many domains (landmarks, political, highly-renowned Luthorian personalities and their achievements, traditions, societal norms) - and an essay on a societal subject, where the students will be asked to explore the subject and argue in favour or against of said subject through well-founded and reasoned arguments illustrated through examples (either shown in class or personal knowledge). 

Government officials are confident this new “rewamped” A-level exam will be “a welcomed first step in resolving the many issues” related to the Luthorian education system. Left-wing opponents have argued against the enactment of such rewamped exam, due to additional stress being imposed on students already stressing due to the necessary knowledge needed to first take the A-level exam with 2 or 3 specialised fields. Government officials have stated that “measures to reduce stress in school and restore a harmonious space for kids” will be implemented following this reform.

Luthorian Petroleum jumps in controversial oil bidding process in New Englia; join hands with Luthorian banking.

Fort William - Luthori's state-owned oil company, Luthorian Petroleum has, for the first time, publicly addressed its interest in acquiring the resources exploitation rights in the new Rossfadda oil fields in New Englia.  

Luthorian Petroleum’s CEO Kim Ann-Hyung has announced the company’s intention on Wednesday. She said that Luthorian Petroleum’s bid was encouraged to answer the company’s growing interest in international cooperation in oil refinery and extraction operations.  

“We have addressed our interests in one of the two-term contracts that the New Englian government laid forward for the exploitation rights of the Rossafadda oil fields”, said Mrs. Ann-Hyung, when announcing Luthori’s bid. 

Luthorian Petroleum is already engaged in long-term extraction operations in both Hobrazia’s small oil reserves in collaboration with Hobrazian firms and in the South Ocean. While Fort William’s rethoric has slowly been turning against the expansion of the petroleum lobby, with former Prime Minister Seddon openly discussing Luthori’s overreliance on fossil fuels on the campaign trail in 5704 – with some considering this stance as the reason for the Conservative minority following this election cycle. 

When assuming office as Luthorian Petroleum’s CEO, she, alongside Chairman Joseph Loon-Fellinger, announced “serious reforms” to the company’s focus, now LP will be focusing on the expansion of international oil operations, alongside local partners. 

“In New Englia, we’ll work with Petroenglia, of course, in a mutually beneficial agreement on the exploitation of these oil fields”, she said when asked about the specifics of Luthori’s bid, she moreover added that the Luthorian bid was aiming at “securing co-prosperity between the New Englian and Luthorian people”.  

If the Luthorian Petroleum bid was successful, the multinational corporation would assist in the extraction of the relatively untamed oil reserves in the Red Bass Ocean. Besides, Luthorian Petroleum will also help with the exportation of said ressources through Luthorian shipping corporations. The bid was also joined by Luthorian banking, which supported the LP’s bid in New Englia. 

Luthorian banking promised billions of pounds of additional investment in New Englian education, economic sectors, tying said investment with LP’s bid in the country’s oil reserves.  

“Investments and Luthorian help on oil extraction and exportation shall be a great way for New Englia to continue developing its economy by avoiding the same old mistake that every oil-rich nation does, becoming reliant on it.” said Professor Jay Livingstone of the University of Fort William. 

This offer received cautious support from 10 Crown Street, the Luthorian government seemingly eager to push for the LP bid, which would help the company's development and be a great boost on bilateral ties with New Englia.

Luthori's government continues pressure on Temanian regime as country faces increased security concern and instability.

Fort William – Luthorian government officials have commented on the recent events unfolding in Temania. Following the controverisal arrest of Ahmad Santaso at the hands of the communist regime, the nation has seemingly experienced a very unstable period, according to experts, numerous Temanians, who didn’t feel any apathy towards the regime are currently being swayed by the opposition after what is widely seen as an “illegal” arrest. 

Since Mr. Santaso’s arrest, the fundamentalist pan-Ahmadist organisation Jamaat al-Ahmadi has issued a “call to arms”, calling upon all Temanians, specifically those of Ahmadi faith to take up arms against the communist regime. Even if the two organisations, BERJAMA and the Jamaat al-Ahmadi both represent significantly different oppositions, with BERJAMA being considered as the “pro-democracy” camp, while the Jamaat al-Ahmadi remains a deeply fundamentalist organisation, having treated the former as a “party of satan”. 

On February 18th, 5711, the radical Ahmadist organisation claimed responsibility over a terrorist attack in Temania’s capital, Radekarta, which claimed the lives of over 28 people and injured 150. The government immediately condemned the terrorist acts, describing these as an “act of irrational folly” and one that “could never be, in any way, justified”, nonetheless, in Luthori, the government still commented on the “righteous fight of the Temanian people to find peace, democracy and the pursuit of happiness”, something that according to Luthorian officials “can’t happen under the current communist regime”. 

Luthorian Prime Minister Holian-Keaty and Foreign Secretary Schnee both described Mr. Santaso as an “example” or a “freedom fighter” after news of his arrest reached Luthori. Since then, the Luthorian government has continuously demanded his “steadfast and unconditional release” from custody, stressing the arrest’s illegal nature. 

Luthori’s condemnation also extended to the radical Jamaat al-Ahmadi, whose fundamentalist nature worries in Fort William, its “jihad against communism” was widely portrayed in a negative light by left-wing media sources, which enlarged the scope of the “holy war” as a “war against Western civilisation”. PM Holian-Keaty stated that the Jamaat al-Ahmadi was a “terrorist” organisation, which “brought nothing but ruin and desolation to the righteous cause of the Temanian people towards democracy”. 

The Luthorian Red Cross stated its “pessimism” related to the undergoing situation in the country. Worsening economic and social conditions are leading more people into poverty. International critics agree with the Red Cross’ assessment that the Temanian government’s official numbers in the perception of poverty and the effectiveness of its social services are widely inaccurate.

Luthori’s government has unveiled a new foreign policy initiative coupled with a landmark declaration. This initiative called the “Luthori-Dovani Reconstruction and Reconciliation Fund” is a fund created by the Luthorian government to tackle the peculiar issue of colonial reparations. Mr. Holian-Keaty's government has had engaged itself on this road since day 1, with the Prime Minister Holian-Keaty himself stressing the need for an ‘official state apology on colonialism’ on the campaign trail. 

Since his election in 5708, the Labour-led government seemingly kicked this issue down the road, avoiding milestone statements on the topic, avoiding controversial statement with the nation’s conservative establishment, which is not enthusiastic about this whole process.  

This seeming abandonment of the issue caused the anger of Labour activists and of organisations both at home and abroad, a Guardian editorial written by Paul Lewitt chastised the Prime Minister and his government for the lack of progress on that field: ‘...the Prime Minister agreed back in 5706 that Luthori ought to formally apologise for the crimes and atrocities caused by Luthorian colonialism, committed by the Luthorian Empire in the name of the Crown [...] where is the progress now? Did Labour, once again, shamelessly walked away from its engagements?’ 

Seemingly in a bid to restore trust in the Labour Party following the poor electoral performance of the party in 5712, where the party lost 30 seats in the Imperial Diet but nonetheless maintained its majority in the lower house, the Holian-Keaty government led a large event to formally announce the creation of the “Luthori-Dovani Reconstruction and Reconciliation Fund”, a fund created to tackle the issue of colonial reparations – but, according to Prime Minister Holian-Keaty, “interpreted” in a modern day sense. 

“With this new fund, we are not aiming to individually compensate individuals, we are aiming at the development of states which development was hindered by Luthorian colonial attitude [...] furthermore, there is a statement of goodwill through the creation of this fund. We do not aim to only atone for our past but also lead the way for the new era in our relations with Dovani, Temania and Vascania.” 

The Luthorian government coupled the creation of this fund with an official state apology, through a statement from 10 Crown Street, expressing the government’s “utmost regret for the actions of previous administrations which engaged in the subjugation, brutalisation of the people of Dovani”.  

“This fund will be aimed at channelling Luthorian investments to continue the build-up of numerous Eastern economies – it can be seen as an apology for the previous colonial activities of the Luthorian Empire”, the Prime Minister said. In addition, the Luthorian head of government declared that “any former Luthorian colony could potentially enter a new partnership with Luthori over this fund”, yet he said that the Empire wouldn’t partake in this relationship with “nations committing actions going against Luthori’s moral line of conduct”. 

Prime Minister Holian-Keaty added, in regard to the possible reactions in Dovani that “many will be disappointed, they’ve wished for Luthori to do far more and far earlier, and I do believe that this action will not satisfy everyone. It is my sincere opinion that I do believe that this fund represents a fine line – we do recognise our previous actions and engage in actions to atone our historical guilt but also creates a new form of relationship with our former colonies – one based on mutual understanding and respect.” 

The Foreign Office added that “individual countries could enter discussions with the Luthorian Museum over the restitution of artefacts deemed to be theirs, by origin.”, which is something that previous Luthorian administrations refused to do so. 

“Regardless of whether or not this is popular”, Foreign Secretary Dr. Schnee said, “the government do believe that this road is the most righteous road to engage upon and that this process will be vindicated in some years, even though many today opposes it.”, he concluded.

Elections 5712: Labour’s lack of results both domestically and internationally caused their demise.

Following the 5712 general election, one result was perfectly clear, the reason for the Labour Party’s defeat in these elections. While Labour maintained its majority in the Diet, the party recorded 35 losses in the lower house sending shockwaves to the very core of the party’s apparatus. Prime Minister Holian-Keaty's first term was dominated by international politics – primarily Luthorian diplomatic efforts towards Dovani, but the Prime Minister also took significant steps in curbing the rising trend of militarism in our nation and reform our broken education system. 

But was this enough? For the Luthorian electorate, it wasn’t. The Prime Minister’s agenda suffered from a lack of quick results to show accomplishments. In international politics, Temania, which became the darling of the Luthorian left, continues to be ruled by the PNSP’s one-party dictatorship, even after the Luthorians applied pressure to the regime. But, the key issue with the last term, was the lack of actual accomplishments on the economy, Luthori, was thrown into a recession following Mr. Holian-Keaty's appointment as Prime Minister, as markets feared that an insurgent Labour Party, effectively locked from government for 3 decades would lead an economic policy that would be contrary to Luthori’s needs. 

Prime Minister Holian-Keaty's term also saw some limited success on reforming the healthcare system and the education department, with a budget increase being granted to both departments and limited reforms being implemented on the latter.  

Critics have long argued that the government’s policy wasn’t “innovative” enough – and didn’t “fix” both organizations, but merely “kicked the issue down the road” and it seems that the Luthorian people found itself in agreement with these declarations. In a poll for the Guardian, 57% of Labour voters stated that they felt that the Holian-Keaty government wasn’t doing enough on these fields. 

With the election now having been held a year ago, the Conservative Party’s push, while widely expected by political specialists was nonetheless contained by the mobilization of left-wing voters, who were terrified by the prospect of a Simon premiership. The Tories only recorded an increase of 14 seats in the Imperial Diet, while the greatest beneficiaries of the Labour Party’s decline were the Liberal Party and the Left Party, both parties recording increase in their seat numbers in the lower house.  

While the elections results were disappointing to the Prime Minister, it seemingly acted as a wake-up call for the government, which is now pushing for more direct policy proposals such as the colonial apology fund, answering to a demand from the Labour base and acting on foreign policy as well. Prime Minister Holian-Keaty, in a bid to answer to the demanding Labour base, has promised more “measures” to be implemented in the next months, as his control over the party becomes increasingly shaky following the last disappointing election cycle.
